Best Page

The Best Page category will be judged on writing style, interest, realism (if appropriate to genre), and general appeal to the judges. Although spelling and grammar will not be judged, please ensure that your entry is legible!

First Prize: A 25,000gp Awardicon in the winner's choice of colour.
Second Prize: A 25,000gp Awardicon in the winner's choice of colour.

Bullet500-800 words
BulletAny point in the novel

Best Opening Paragraph

This prize rewards the most interesting opening paragraph to the novel: the one which makes the judges want to read further and which draws the reader in to the plot. Again, spelling and grammar will not be judged.

If your novel involves a preface or other type of introductory section, you may decide whether to enter the first paragraph of your introduction, or the first paragraph of the main novel.

First Prize: A 25,000gp Awardicon in the winner's choice of colour.
Second Prize: A 25,000gp Awardicon in the winner's choice of colour.

Bullet20-100 words
BulletFirst paragraph (or two short paragraphs) in entire novel

Word Count Bonuses

Weekly word count goals are based on the average word count required to reach 50,000 by the end of the month. The minimum daily average needed is 1,667 words and the weekly word count goals aim for slightly more than this.

BulletWeek One: 12,000 words by the 7th
BulletWeek Two: 24,000 words by the 14th
BulletWeek Three: 36,000 words by the 21st
BulletWeek Four: 48,000 words by the 28th

Anyone reaching these goals will receive a 1000gp bonus for each goal. It's not necessary to reach each goal in turn in order to get the next one; for example if you only make it to 8,000 by the 7th but put on a spurt and pass 24,000 by the 14th you will get the bonus for the 14th.

Everyone who hits 50,000 words will receive a further bonus of 1,000gps.

Highest Word Count

The person who reaches the highest overall word count at the end of NaNoWriMo (as verified via the website, so make sure you keep updating your word count and submit your novel for verification!) will receive a Merit badge from a choice of NaNoWriMo Winner, Congratulations or Success.
