Urdu:  Manay e dashtnawardi koie tadbeer naheen
          Aek chakker hay meray paaoun maen zageer naheen

English:=== In search of his love a lover must roam
                  His prison is desert and also his home
                                            -

Urdu:  Shouq us dasht maen doarhaay hay mujh ko keh jahaan
          Jaada ghair az nigah e deeda e tasweer naheen

English:=== To win his beloved if he does aspire
                  He has to follow his urge and desire
                                              -

Urdu:  Hasrat e lazzat e aazaar rahi jaati hay
          Jaada e raah e wafa juz dam e shamsheer naheen

English:=== The pang of love is a lover's reward
                  It stabs his heart like a double sword
                                              -

Urdu:  Ranj e nomeedi e javaid gawaara rahieo
          Khush houn ger naala zaboonikash e taaseer naheen

English:=== With his pain and sorrow he has to cope
                  And even after that there's little hope
                                              -

Urdu:  Ser khujaata hay jahaan zakhm e ser achha ho jaay
          Lazzat e sang ba andaaza e taqreer naheen

English:=== His wounds he savors more and more
                  And before it can heal, he picks his sore
                                              -

Urdu:  Jab karam rukhsat e baibaaki o gustaakhi day
          Koie taqseer ba juz khijlat e taqseer naheen

English:=== But he can be also curt and bold
                  Whenever he gains a little foohold
                                                -

Urdu:  GHALIB apna yeh aqeeda hay ba qaul e Naasikh
          Aap baibehra hay jo moetaaqid e Meer naheen

English:=== And though, GHALIB, as a poet he may be good
                  He defers to Meer as a poet should
                                              ====
