Nine Wishes

Prompt: A genie pops out of your magic bottle and says that because Writing.com is having its ninth birthday this week, instead of the usual three wishes, you get nine. Only there are some additional rules . . . What are the rules? What happens?

I found a blue wine bottle,
while cleaning up the backyard
and when I uncorked the bottle
a genie appeared to me.

He spoke these words to me,
“In honor of writing.com,
nine wishes I will give you
but these things you must do:
one wish must be for someone else
it cannot be for you,
and I cannot allow you
to screw up Earth’s history,
just to please you.”

“One wish I wish for writing.com
a prosperous year to come.”

“My second wish I wish for myself
a 12-month premium membership.”

“My third, fourth, fifth, and sixth wishes
for my two brothers, my sister, and my mother,
that there next birthdays will bring them
joy and family togetherness.”

“What do you want for your next three wishes?”
He smiled as he waved his hands.

“A new Kia hybrid car,
a complete home make-over,
and a new laptop computer.”

Then he kissed me on my cheek
and disappear,
leaving me to open the boxes
he left in my living room.
