Urdu:  Milti hay kho e yaar say naar iltahaab maen
          Kaafir houn ger na milti ho raahat azaab maen

English:=== Oh, when she's angry, she gives me hell
                  But I, when she scolds, in heaven dwell
                                          -

Urdu:  Kab say houn kya bataaoun jahaan e kharaab maen
          Shabha e hijr ko bhee rakhoun ger hisaab maen

English:=== I have lived too long, some people say
                  But they count the time when she's away
                                            -

Urdu:  Ta phir na intazaar maen neend aa'ay umr bhar
          Aanay ka ahd ker gaay aa'ay jo khaab maen

English:=== She came in my dream and said she'll visit
                  Since then I haven't slept, not even a bit
                                            -

Urdu:  Qaasid kay aatay aatay khat ik aur likh rakhoun
          Maen jaanta houn jo wo likhaen gay jawaab maen

English:=== When I send her a letter, I know the reply
                  So I do not wait, and again I try
                                              -

Urdu:  Mujh tak kab un ki bazm maen aata tha dour e jaam
          Saaqi nay kuchh mila na diya ho sharaab maen

English:=== But when she serves, it tastes divine
                  I think she mixes something in the wine
                                              -

Urdu:  Jo munkir e wafa ho, faraib us pay kya chalay
          Kuin badgumaan houn dost say dushman kay baab maen

English:=== And about my rival I do not worry
                  For favor from her he cannot curry
                                                -

Urdu:  Maen muztarib houn wasl maen khouf e raqeeb say
          Daala hay tum ko wehm nay kis paich o taab maen

English:=== But he surely knows to pussyfoot
                  And doubt in her mind he can easily put
                                                -

Urdu:  Maen aur hizz e wasl, Khudasaaz baat hay 
          Jaan nazr daeni bhool gaya iztaraab maen

English:=== And when she comes, being an amatuer
                  I forget to tell her that I'll die for her
                                                  -

Urdu:  Hay taiwari charhi hoie ander naqaab kay
          Hay ik shikan parhi hoie tarf e naqaab maen

English:=== Then she gets upset, and wears a veil
                  And I moan, and groan, and cry, and wail
                                                  -

Urdu:  Laakhoun lagaao, aek churaana nigaah ka
          Laakhoun banaao, aek bigarhna itaab maen

English:=== And then she pouts, and does not stir
                  And ignores completely my feelings for her
                                                    -

Urdu:  Wo naala dil maen khas kay baraaber jaghey na paa'ay
          Jis naalay say shigaaf parhay aaftaab maen

English:=== So my moaning and groaning are of no use
                  And the effect desired they do not produce
                                                      -     

Urdu:  Wo sehr muda'atalabi maen na kaam aa'ay
          Jis sehr say safeena rawaan ho saraab maen

English:=== Now magic and voodoo I think I'll try
                  They say on them you can surely rely
                                                      -

Urdu:  GHALIB chhuti sharaab per ab bhee kabee, kabhee
          Peeta houn roz a abr o shab e maahtaab maen

English:=== And my drinking, GHALIB, I try to fight
                  But I can't resist it on a moonlit night
