My name is Esmerelda.
I am just nine years old.
I attend Elvira’s Day School.
It’s for witches, I am told.
I never really thought that
I was a witch, you see.
It is just the family business
I learned at Mama’s knee.
For I am the ninth daughter
of a ninth daughter, too.
I'm told that is very special.
Strong magic I can do!
I have a pet familiar.
His name is Bob the Cat.
He’s always right there beside me,
no matter where I’m at.
I make good grades at Day School,
at least, most of the time.
I’m not good at incantations,
‘cause mine don’t seem to rhyme.
I’m great at levitation,
and in using my new wand.
I zap better than my sisters!
Of this, I’m really fond!
When it comes to broom riding,
I’m really the very best!
I can swoop and glide and circle
Much better than the rest!
In prestidigitation
I handle it very well!
Now you see it, and, now, you don’t
is where I do excel!
My sisters just don’t like it
for I’m destined to be
next in line for Coven Leader.
They really envy me!
Guess I could practice spelling.
No, not the letter kind!
I’ll turn them into fat white mice!
I’m certain Mom won’t mind!
