Unlovable and unkempt, like so many previous partners left behind long ago. His scruffy hair, empty eyes, feeble limbs are all different somehow — hollow, distant.
This perfect union, once indestructible, now lies crumpled on a stained floor. Words unsaid hang in stale air, waiting for utterance but remaining silent.
Having thought cohabitation key to joy, we discovered life’s myriad flaws as closeness made our hearts grow colder.
Winter befalls us; realisation dawns slowly though with absolute certainty — what was right is wrong. Never again will I love yet loathe simultaneously. Let the charade finish; watch it fade until palest grey.
Prompt: The relationship is beyond perfect until the next level when you move in together, tell me in 100 unique words what destroys the perfect match.
My response: Many relationships fail for no discernible reason; sometimes it just doesn’t work. I tried to capture in this piece the negative feelings that pervade the mind of someone who has fallen out of love.
BRIT ALERT
Please read before you review
I'm British and, as such, spell things differently than Americans do. Having been "corrected" on correct British spellings in many reviews before, I decided to add this disclaimer to some of my stories. Please bear in mind that many words ending -or in the US end -our in the UK; words ending -ize in the US end -ise in the UK; and we do not have the word "gotten" — over here it's simply "got". There are various other differences, of course, these are just a few that I'm always getting picked up on. Please consider our cultural differences before "correcting" my spelling and word usage!
