Writer's Cramp: Final Birthday Prompt

New Prompt:
The last prompt for the birthday week... Today is your birthday and when you get to the party, you realize you're nine years younger than you thought you were. What happened and how did you get that extra time?

It was my birthday,
the ninth  of September,
dinner and dancing tonight!
The day was a blur of excitement.
Something didn’t seem quite right!

A special birthday,
it was a great big one!
Fifty candles on my cake!
I couldn’t believe where the time went!
It really made my head ache!

I walked in the room.
All of my friends were there!
Family was gathered ‘round too.
Suddenly they all started laughing.
I was wearing only one shoe!

Naked I stood there!
Embarrassed without a doubt!
What a humilitiation!
How on earth did I get there like that?
I must have caused a sensation!

The doorbell  woke me!
I had been taking a nap!
It had been the worst of dreams!
It was just  three in the afternoon!
Plenty of time left, it seems.

I’m not fifty, yet!
Reality set in.
Talk about being reprieved!
At forty one, I still had nine years
I was greatly relieved!

It was really weird!
What a strange beginning
to a great party that night!
I hope when I turn fifty, for real
it won’t be such a fright!
