Urdu:  Naheen keh kujh ko qayaamat ka aateqaad naheen
          Shab e firaaq say roz e jaza ziyaad naheen

English:=== The night of parting has nothing but torment
                  It's just as trying as the Day of Judgment
                                          -

Urdu:  Koie kahay keh shab e meh maen kya buraaie hay
          Bala say aaj ager din ko abr o baad naheen

English:=== I like to drink on a fine day
                  But on moonlit night I also may
                                          -

Urdu:  Jo aaoun saamnay un kay toe merhaba na kahaen
          Jo jaaoun waan say kaheen ko toe khairbaad naheen

English:=== When I go to see her, she never says hi
                  And when I leave, there's no good-bye
                                            -

Urdu:  Kabhee jo yaad bhee aata houn maen toe kehtay haen
          Keh aaj buzm man kuchh fitna o fisaad naheen

English:=== And when I'm away, she always says why
                  He's not here, that troublesome guy
                                              -

Urdu:  Alaawa eid kay milti hay aur din bhee sharaab
          Gada e koocha e maikhaana naamuraad naheen

English:=== She'd let me drink on a festive occasion
                  But the rest of the time she needs persuasion
                                                -

Urdu:  Jahaan maen ho gham o shaadi baham, hamaen kya kaam
          Diya hay hum ko Khuda nay wo dil keh shaad naheen

English:=== Oh, there's no joy; I've only pain
                  But this is my fate; I cannot complain
                                                  -

Urdu:  Tum un kay waaday ka zikr un say kuin karo GHALIB
          Yeh kya keh tum kaho aur wo kahaen keh yaad naheen

English:=== And, GHALIB, a promise she'll never make
                  Unless this promise she intends to break
