Redolence
I inhale the scent of you, teasing myself … (Form: Free Verse)

Redolence

As you lay there,
my hunger burns with
a cold heat in my eyes.

I can feel the disturbance
in the air as your pulse
sends its slow rhythmic
call to me...

I can see your essence
as you quietly breathe
  in and out...

I pick up your discarded shirt
and inhale the scent of
you, teasing myself
with the flavors that
float across my tongue...
  the muskiness of your need,
    the salt of your efforts,
pungent odors of your last day.

As I slide onto the bed
I reach out with my mind -
your dreams are guided
to a place where passion
and reality are indistinguishable.

I take you in my arms and
slowly my mouth covers
the softness of your neck...

As I penetrate the artery,
the warm smell of your
blood dances with my
need, each holding the
other, each trying to
lead...
  yours to life
    mine to death.

My hand, lying loosely
on your chest, marks
the slowing of your heart
beat
        by
            beat
until all is silent...

and only the perfume
of darkness remains.

redolence - having a pleasant odor; fragrant.

Thank you for taking time to read my words.  I would appreciate it if you took a moment and left a comment.  Your reaction, impressions, criticisms, - yes, even praise *Smile* are all equally welcome.
