It really doesn't seem like I am approaching 60 years old. I have just celebrated my 57th birthday, this summer. The years have certainly flown!
I live in rural South Georgia with my husband, thirty five goats, two cats and the dumbest dog in all the world, Sam. We live on a "mini" farm that has a couple of small ponds and a natural stream flowing at the back of the property. We are frequently visited by various "critters". I love these visits! This year flocks of Canada geese have stopped by to visit poor lonely Ms. Duck. Ms. Duck is the last surviving member of a flock of 13 that belonged to one of our neighbors. Sadly, she chooses to live alone in our pond. Once she was irritated by the visits of the geese, but now she happily swims with the flock. I guess, she has learned to appreciate the company.
I retired last November after working with the State of Georgia for 34 years. I was a Counselor for the Department of Corrections. Since retiring, I have found that I truly love being at home, and have been busier since retirement than I ever was when I worked! I am now able to put more quality time into doing all of those things that I always wanted to do, but didn't have enough time to devote to them because I had to work!!!
I have three children, a son and two daughters. They are all married and live away. We enjoy visiting as often as possible. I have 5 grandchildren-4 boys and 1 girl. My youngest daughter is expecting her second child any day now. She wanted this one to be a surprise, so she opted not to find out the gender. We are patiently awaiting our newest gift from God.
My husband and I attend a rural Baptist church, that my family founded in 1863. Since it is a small congregation, in order for it to be successful, all of the membership has to be involved in most everything that is done. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding! We spend a lot of time doing various projects for our church.
My husband, David, is still working. He hopes to work until he is 62, at least. He is very envious, at times, of my staying at home. Although, I am sure he is not envious of the yard work, housework, and the canning and preserving that I have been doing!
I was very fortunate this summer to have my first book published. It is a short collection of children's stories and poems entitled I Love To Visit Grandpa. I don't have to tell all of you who write, what a thrill seeing my name on it's cover was! I am working on several other pieces right now. Discovering WDC has been a wonderful blessing. In the three short months that I have been here, I have seen an increase in my productivity.
It was through one of the members that I discovered this group. I am very happy to be a part of this group, and look forward to participating with its many activities.
