As the blue ribbons fell to the ground they landed and entangled Casey's feet. The ribbons twisted around her ankles as she attempted to untangle herself, the movement ended up creating a knotted effect. The crowd screamed out well-meaning but intense phrases urging Casey to hurry back into her performance, but to no avail. She was locked in place and her words fell on deaf ears.
"I can't, they won't", Casey cried as the frustration of being unable to right this wrong in the midst of battle - in the midst of competition landed on her. Casey looked down to see her coach's hands feverously attempting to untie the satiny knots and she looked away briefly as she was freed. "They're untied, now GO!" Coach screamed. The roar of the crowd, the flow of ribbons in the air and Casey was right back into the routine that had broken off in midair. The paralysis gone and an athlete once more at center stage.
