Urdu:  Sub kahaan kuchh laala o gul maen numaayaan ho gaien
          Khaak maen kya soorataen houn gi keh pinhaan ho gaien

English:=== As beautiful flowers come out they must
                  The lovely women that lie in the dust
                                          -

Urdu:  Yaad thien hum ko bhee rangarang bazm aaraaiyaan
          Laikin ab naqsh o nigaar e taaq e nisyaan ho gaien

English:=== Oh, how I remember the fun we've had
                  Now it's all gone, and it's so sad
                                          -

Urdu:  Thien binaat un naash e gerdoun din ko perday maen nihaan
          Shab ko un kay ji maen kya aaie keh uryaan ho gaien

English:=== The beauties in the day are out of sight
                  But like the stars they're naked at night
                                            -

Urdu:  Qayd maen Yaaqoob nay li go na Yusuf ki khaber
          Laikin aankhaen rozan e deewaar e zindaan ho gaien 

English:=== Though Jacob from Joseph did not hear
                  He cried and cried; was his pain so severe
                                            -

Urdu:  Sub raqeeboun say hoen naakhush, per zanaan e Misr say
          Hay Zulekha khush keh mehv e maah e Kinaan ho gaien

English:=== And Potiphar's wife was not so glad
                  When she saw that girls about Josph were mad
                                            -   

Urdu:  Joo e khoon aankhoun say behnay do keh hay shaam e firaaq
          Maen yeh samjhoun ga keh do shamaen firozaan ho gaien

English:=== When blood, in her absence, my eyes shed
                  They change my cheeks from pale to red
                                              -

Urdu:  In parizaadoun say laen gay khuld maen hum intaqaam
          Qudrat e haq say yehi hooraen ager waan ho gaien

English:=== I'll take my revenge in Heaven, I swear
                  If these beauties become the houris there
                                            -

Urdu:  Neend us ki hay, dimaagh us ka hay, raataen us ki haen
          Taeri zulfaen jis kay baazoo per pareeshaan ho gaien

English:=== And I also think it is not very fair
                  On my rival's arm when she spreads her hair
                                              -

Urdu:  Maen chaman maen kya gaya, goya dabistaan khul gaya
          Bulbulaen sun ker mery naalay ghazalkhan ho gaien

English:=== My moaning and groaning when to the park I bring 
                  The birds, when they hear me, start to sing
                                                -

Urdu:  Wo nigaahaen kuin hoie jaati haen ya Rab dil kay paar
          Jo meri kotaahi e qismat say mizhgaan ho gaien

English:=== Her long eyelashes are like the darts
                  They strke, they jab, they go through the hearts
                                                -

Urdu:  Bus keh roaka maen nay aur seenay maen ubhreen pay ba pay
          Maeri aahaen bakhia e chaak e gareebaan ho gaien

English:=== My fiery sighs when I try to suppress
                  My chest explodes, and it becomes a mess
                                                -

Urdu:  Waan gya bhee maen toe un ki gaalioun ka kya jawaab
          Yaad theen jitni duaaen sarf e darbaan ho gaien

English:=== I can take her abuse but how I hate
                  When her awful doorman I've to adulate
                                                -

Urdu:  Jaanfiza hay baada, jis kay haath maen jaam aa gaya
          Sub lakeeraen haath ki goya rug e jaan ho gaien

English:=== But when a drink she offers, I come alive
                  The wine to me does a lot to revive
                                                -

Urdu:  Hum mawaihhid haen, hamaara kaish hay tark e rasoom
          Millataen jab mit gaien, ajza e eimaan ho gaien

English:=== For the rites of religeon I do not care
                  Though belief and faith, I think, are fair
                                                -

Urdu:  Ranj say khooger hua insaan to mit jaata hay ranj
          Mushkilaen itni perhaen mujh per keh aasaan ho gaien

English:=== Yes, when it's too painful, it becomes quite breezy
                  And when it's too hard, it becomes rather easy
                                                -

Urdu:  Yuin hi ger rota raha GHALIB toe aey ahl e jahaan
          Daekhna in bastioun ko tum keh weeraan ho gaien

English:=== But, GHALIB, if she lets me cry and cry
                  The world might drown; and it might die
