Tucker’s eyes began to flicker open. He felt extremely tired and he tried to move. He turned his head and saw wires attached to him. His vision was still blurry but he seemed to recognise where he was. He couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly where he was but he definitely was beginning to remember.
Again he attempted to move but his body wouldn’t allow him. He was stuck where he was. He seemed to be in some kind of bed.
Just then a woman wearing white came to him. At first she didn’t notice that he was awake. But when she looked at his face she could see that his eyes were open. This shocked her at first and she quickly walked away. No more then a minute later she came back with a man wearing glasses and a white lab coat. Tucker tried to say something to him but he couldn’t get the words out of his mouth. It was as if his mouth had gone numb.
“Oh good you’re awake,” he said. “You’ve been asleep for sometime.” He saw that Tucker attempted to move. “Its best you stay still. You’ve been asleep for some time.” Tucker was only able to get a gargling sound out. “I’m Doctor Johnson. I’m going to make sure you get better.” He then turned to the woman standing next to him. “Nurse could you please contact his next of kin.”
“Yes Doctor,” replied the woman.
The nurse then walked to a nearby phone and began to type in a number. Seconds later it began to ring.
Meanwhile a couple of miles away in an apartment built up to gigantic proportions Jessica was sitting down on a chair filing her nails. Her only daughter Dawn was currently in school so she didn’t have to worry about her. But then the phone began to rang and she calmly picked it up.
“Hello Snape residents,” said Jessica. “What… That’s fantastic… Yes I’ll be there right away.”
Jessica then quickly put the phone down got up to her feet. She quickly grabbed her purse and left the apartment. The apartment itself was quite different to the old one. This one had ceilings a lot higher then the previous one. The door frames were also a lot higher. The walls were all nicely coloured and there was a family picture of Jessica with Dawn and Tucker just before he went into his coma.
Just before Jessica left the apartment she wrote a note for Dawn so that she knew where she was. But after that she practically ran to the hospital. For most people this would have taken some time. But thanks to her size Jessica got there within minutes. She immediately went to the window that she had been to for the past few years. Doctor Johnson was there waiting for her.
“Miss Snape so glad you could come in such short time,” said Doctor Johnson.
“Is it true?” replied Jessica.
“Yes it’s true. He’s awake.”
“Can I see him please?” A tear began to develop in her eye.
“Sure just be careful.”
He then stepped aside and Jessica was able to see Tucker in the bed. His eyes were open and this caused her to cry.
“Tucker,” she said. He then slowly raised his arm and gave her a little wave. She then tried to put her hand through the window to grab him. But Doctor Johnson quickly held onto her thumb.
“I’m sorry Miss Snape but its for his benefit that you shouldn’t move him.”
“But I haven’t seen him awake for years Doctor.”
“Right now he’s in a very fragile state. Moving him could do a lot more damage to his body.”
Jessica then reluctantly took her hand away from him and Doctor Johnson let go of her thumb while she did this.
“Will he be the same as he was before?” asked Jessica.
“With some hope yes,” replied Doctor Johnson. “But it’ll be a while before he regains complete control of his body.”
Jessica stayed as close as she possible could to Tucker. For the past few years she had only seen Tucker sleeping and now she was overcome with joy to see him awake. But she couldn’t love him or anything yet. He was still far too weak for that and she didn’t want to hurt him anymore.
Just then everyone in the hospital began to feel the ground shake. They thought that it was a minor earthquake. But when they could feel that there was brief pauses between each shake they soon realised that they were footsteps.
Jessica knew who was causing these small earthquakes and she wasn’t very happy/. She shook her head and put her hands on her hips.
“I’ve told her once I’ve told her a thousand times,” said Jessica. She then turned around and saw a teenage giantess who towered above her. She had the same hair and eye colour as Jessica. But she only came up to the shoulders of this giantess. “Dawn how many times have I told you step lightly. You’re causing an earthquake.”
“Sorry mom,” replied Dawn. “I got too excited.”
“I know that now might be a very exciting time for us all but you have to be careful. You’re the largest being in the universe.”
“I know I know.”
The problem with Dawn was that she had grown taller then Jessica and she was still growing . She was growing so fast that clothes that fit her one day would be too small for her within a month or so. Dawn’s height had somehow surpassed Jessica’s powers to grow 20% taller then any living being. The Doctors thought it was because she was Jessica’s daughter and that she override the power.
Dawn hated being so tall. She always felt like an outcast and she had been teased for as long as she could remember. It wasn’t too bad when she was younger because she could say that she wasn’t as tall as her mother. But now that she had outgrown her mother she felt that the world around her was shrinking.
Even at home Dawn felt like she was too tall. She was too tall to fit through the doorframes so she had to duck each time she went into a room in her home. The furniture was made up to Jessica’s size. Everything was too low and her bed wasn’t long enough for her to sleep on it properly.
Dawn quickly looked through the window of hospital and she saw that Tucker was awake. She quickly got excited again.
“Daddy,” she said.
But Tucker didn’t recognise her. She had changed so much since he had last seen her that she was like a completely different person. But he recognised her eyes and he gave a small smile. He tried to talk once more but again he couldn’t get any words out of his mouth. There was only a gargling sound.
“What did he say?” asked Dawn.
“He can’t say anything yet,” replied Jessica. “The Doctors say that he’s got a long way to go until he’s recovered enough to come home.”
“Oh.”
“Err Miss Snape,” said a Voice. Jessica turned to the window and saw Doctor Johnson. “May I have a word with you in private for a moment?”
“Sure,” replied Jessica.
Dawn then began to walk away. She was full of mixed feelings. She was very happy that her father was awake. But she was sad that he couldn’t talk to her and that he barely recognised her.
Jessica moved a little closer to the window and Doctor Johnson began to talk to her about Tucker.
“Now Miss Snape now that Tucker is awake I need to go through a couple of things with you,” said Doctor Johnson. “First off I wouldn’t bombard him with too much right now. The world around him is very different to the one he left. It might take some time for him to fully understand what’s changed.”
“Ok,” replied Jessica. “So how do you tell him everything that’s changed?”
“Well we do it slowly. We can start within the next couple of days. We’ll start off with little things and move onto bigger things when he starts to understand.”
“Right. But is there anything Dawn and I can do for him right now?”
“For the first few weeks he’ll stay here. But when he’s released he’ll need around the clock care until he fully recovers.”
“Oh.” She seemed to be disappointed. “Well I guess it is for the best.”
Just then a ringing sound went off. It only lasted around a second before going off once more.
“I’m sorry Miss Snape but visiting hours are over. I’m afraid you’ll have to leave now and come back tomorrow.”
“Ok.” She gave one more sigh before leaving. She caught up with Dawn and they both walked back home. Normally two giantesses walking down a street would cause panic. But since everyone knew about them they were used to it. And since no one ever got injured and there was no property damage no one really minded.
When they got home Dawn went into her room while Jessica began to make dinner. She was having to cook a lot more food then she had done years ago. Since Dawn was growing so fast her body needed a lot of calories to support her. Dawn could sometimes eat up to triple Jessica if she was really hungry. But all the food wasn’t making Dawn any fatter. She was just growing taller and taller.
After cooking the food Jessica put it out of the table and she called Dawn in. Dawn herself took a minute to get there and she sat down on a chair. But to her it felt quite low to her. But she began to tuck into her dinner that made was made up of several tons of meats and vegetables.
Jessica was surprised with how fast Dawn was eating. She cleared her throat but it didn’t get through to her daughter so she did it louder. This quickly got her attention and she looked at her mother.
“What?” asked Dawn.
“Calm down,” replied Jessica. “Your food isn’t going to run away from you.” She giggled at this joke.
“Sorry Mom I’m just nervous.”
“About what?”
“About Dad. He didn’t recognise me.”
“Well you have changed a lot since he last saw you. You’re blooming into a young woman. And you’ve grown a lot. It’s a lot for him to take in. But before you know it he’ll recognise you as his precious little girl.”
“But I’m not so little. I’m growing taller and no one knows when its going to stop. All those doctors don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.”
“They’re doing the best they can.”
“Well all of they’re supposed cures aren’t working. If anything I’m growing faster then before.”
“What did they say?”
“What?”
“I know you. You’re only like this when someone’s said something about your height. Tell me what they said.”
Dawn paused for a moment. She was thinking about the right words to say to her mother.
“Well…” said Dawn.
“Earlier today I was with my friends in the park,” said Dawn. “School had just finished and we went there to relax before going home. It was there that I saw Alexander the Great.”
“The Alexander the Great?” replied Jessica.
“Not him. His name’s Alex and I call him Alexander the Great. Well I don’t say it to anyone.”
“What happened?”
“Kelly told me that I should go over and talk to him. I have a crush on him and I don’t know why.”
“Is it because he’s handsome?”
“And smart and kind.” Dawn paused for a moment. She was in her own little world. Jessica then cleared her throat and this snapped Dawn back into reality. “Anyway Kelly told me that I should go and talk to him. So I went over to him. At first he didn’t notice me so I just said hi. That’s when he turned around and looked up at me. He was terrified of me. I could see him shaking. I tried to introduce myself but he ran away screaming. I felt like a freak.”
“I’ve told you before Dawn you’re not a freak.”
“Besides you how many other people are anywhere close to my size?”
“I admit we’re different from everyone else. But different can be a good thing. It helps you with your job.”
Dawn had a part-time job to help pay for her food and clothing. Her job was an assistant with Jessica’s organization. She would sometimes go on missions with an agent and train. But her main job was to make sure nothing happened to the more vulnerable agents. Jessica’s tiny friend Fern was a good example. Although Jessica didn’t really like her going to dangerous worlds. Dawn was still somewhat scarred from her experiences on Earth.
“I would have liked to do a normal job,” said Dawn. “Hell even if I worked at a fast food restaurant I’d feel somewhat normal.”
“But you are normal Dawn. No matter what anyone says normal is what you are. And if people say you’re different its good. Everyone is different in someway. No two people are the same. And besides you’ve got something to look forward to. When he’s well enough you can spend some quality time with your father.”
The pair continued to eat their dinners and they finished within minutes. They both stood up and gave each other a hug. For Dawn it was like hugging a dwarf and for Jessica it was like hugging an Amazon.
“I know one thing that always made you happy,” said Jessica.
“What’s that?” replied Dawn.
“Ice cream.”
This made Dawn smile. Jessica then proceeded to make the ice cream. She mixed several different flavours into one mixture. She remembered to add all of Dawn’s favourites. This consisted of some flavours that were unfamiliar to people of Earth. But they gave the ice cream a good kick.
As night drew in both women were tired and they went to their own bedrooms. Jessica read some of her book before going to sleep. When she fell asleep Jessica shrank to normal size as she always did.
Dawn on the other hand was still awake. She was lying straight on her bed and her feet hanged off the edge. She was hugging a huge bear she called Mr. Bump. The bear was quite small compared to her. She had had him as long as she could remember and she always loved him when she was somewhat down. She slept with him every night and tonight was no exception.
But when Dawn fell asleep unlike her mother Dawn stayed the same size. She’d also grow a little each night. Most of the time it was no more then an inch at a time. But they all added up.
The next morning in the hospital Tucker was awoken by the opening of the curtains. His eyes slowly flickered open and he saw a nurse. Once again he tried to move but he could barely lift his arms.
The nurse then went over to him and helped him sit up. It had been the first time he had sat up for years. She had a bowl of soup for him and he was very hungry. She sat next to him and began to feed him.
“I have some good news for you Tucker,” said the Nurse. “Your partner and daughter will be here sometime today. But we need to do some tests on you this morning. We just need to see if there’s anything we might have difficulties with.”
All Tucker could do was nod his head. It was becoming the only way he could properly communicate with anyone. The staff had instructed to ask him simple yes and no questions for now.
After finishing his soup Tucker was taken to a special room. There he underwent a series of tests. One was an x-ray to see if there was still any damage to any of his bones. Another was to test how much his muscles had deteriorated. Since he hadn’t moved them for 13 years they weak. It would take a lot of physiotherapy to put them right. He probably wouldn’t have full function of his body for at least a year or two.
The doctors also wanted to see how much Tucker was able to talk. But he could only gargle for now. He couldn’t get out any words that made sense. The doctors were going to have their work cut out for them.
Meanwhile in Jessica’s apartment she was making breakfast. Dawn was still asleep and if she didn’t wake up soon she would miss school. But the smell of the pancakes woke up the young giantess. She slowly got out of bed and got washed and changed. She then went into the kitchen where she saw a mountain of pancakes waiting for her. Jessica was already sitting down eating her breakfast.
“I thought you weren’t going to wake up,” said Jessica. “I thought I was going to have to eat all these pancakes myself.”
“Sorry it took me a while to get to sleep last night,” replied Dawn.
She then began to eat the pancakes that were in front of her. All Jessica could do was watch as Dawn devoured enough pancakes to last Jessica for the day. She also drunk several gallons of orange juice.
Jessica had also prepared Dawn with her lunch for when she was at school. She couldn’t have the dinners there since they wouldn’t have enough to feed her. The bag with the food in was extremely heavy but Dawn was able to carry it. Carrying the food and all of her books helped keep her in shape.
After Dawn had finished she cleaned her teeth and went to go out to school. But Jessica stopped her briefly
“Dawn remember that you’re meeting me at the hospital after school,” said Jessica.
“Sure Mom,” replied Dawn.
“And mind your head.”
Dawn ducked under the doorframe and walked to school. Jessica was also having to get out. She had to go to work and her boss really didn’t like anyone being late. Besides she couldn’t wait to tell everyone there that Tucker had woken up.
She had always fantasized about what she would do when he woke up. She imagined them having the perfect wedding and finally be living as one big happy family. She also knew that Dawn needed a father figure.
When Jessica got her H.Q she quickly reported into her superiors. There she learned that she was pairing up with an old friend of hers to go onto a mission. But she had a fair few minutes before she had to go anywhere so she went to meet her partner for her next mission.
Her partner for the mission was Fern. Like Jessica she was 13 years older and she didn’t seem to have aged a day. She was still very tiny. It was sometimes difficult for the giant Jessica to see the tiny Fern.
But Jessica just put Fern on her finger tip and brought her close to her eye. She was happy to see her tiny friend and the feeling was the same for Fern. It had been a week since they had seen each other.
“Hey there Jessica,” said Fern.
“Hey Fern what’s up?” replied Jessica.
Went to the Doctor’s a few days ago. The infection’s cleared up.”
“Oh that’s great.”
“What’s been up with you and Dawn?”
“Nothing except Tucker woke up yesterday.”
“What.” Fern stood there in disbelief for a moment. “You mean your partner Tucker? Dawn’s father Tucker.”
“The very same.”
“That’s great news. How is he?”
“Not too good right now unfortunately. He can’t speak and he can hardly move. He does recognise me but he can hardly recognise Dawn. The last time he saw her was when she was three years old.”
“Well she has changed a lot in all those years.”
“I know. They grow up so fast. Dawn in particular.” She then sighed for a moment. “Anyway you got your equipment.”
“Sure.”
Both women then put a special device in their mouths. This was because the planet they were going to be testing had an atmosphere they had to use these devices just so that they could breathe.
No sooner had they put them in both Jessica and Fern went through the portal. It only took them seconds to reach the planet. But it was a desolate waste land. It was just a red desert. Although the temperature was normal there were still no signs of life. The pair then began to right a couple of things down on a clipboard.
After they had finished taking their notes Jessica took a small rocket from her pocket. It almost looked like a firework and she put it on the ground. Fern lit it with a lighter she had and the rocket went up into the air. Instead of exploding there it began to create clouds. They could also hear thunder.
“Creating a breathable atmosphere complete,” said Jessica. “It’ll take a while before this place has an atmosphere.”
“What now?” replied Fern.
“Now we go back before we get struck by lightning.”
The pair then went back through the portal and they ended up back at H.Q. They took the devices out of their mouths and sat down to grab themselves a coffee. Jessica had a specially made giant mug for herself while Fern had a specially made tiny cup. The two sat down together and began to chat again.
Meanwhile at Dawn’s High School she was enjoying her recess with her friend Kelly. They were sitting on a hill on the school grounds and they were talking to each other. Kelly had been a good friend of Dawn since as long as they could both remember. She had been with her through thick and thin.
“You never guess what happened yesterday,” said Dawn.
“What?” replied Kelly.
“My Dad woke up yesterday.”
“Get out.”
“No seriously. I went to see him.” She then gave out a sigh. “He barely recognised me. It makes me feel sad and disappointed.”
“Well you have changed a lot.”
“Funny that’s what my mom said.”
“You should be happy. You’ve wished this every year on your birthday when you blew out the candles.”
“I guess so.”
“Why don’t we go out later to celebrate your dad waking up and me getting my first car?”
“Yeah that sounds nice.”
Just then Dawn noticed something happening not too far from where she was. She saw a weak puny boy being picked on by a much bigger and stronger boy Dawn hated seeing people getting bullied. She looked at Kelly for a moment before standing up to her full height.
“I’ll be back in a minute,” said Dawn.
“Where are you going?” replied Kelly.
“You’ll see.”
Meanwhile the Bully was oblivious to what was going to happen. He was still bullying the smaller boy.
“Give me your lunch money,” said the Bully.
“A-alright,” replied the boy.
He was then just about to give the Bully his lunch money when a huge hand grabbed the Bully and took him up into the air. He began to panic at first but then he saw Dawn’s huge face and she didn’t look too happy.
“You know what I hate more then anything in the world?” asked Dawn. “It’s bullies. People who think they’re bigger and stronger then someone else so they push them around. Well guess what I’m bigger and stronger then you. So I think I’ll pick on you. How would you like that?”
“No, no, no,” replied the Bully.
“So you don’t want me to bully you?”
“No.”
“Ok I’ll do it if you stop bullying people. Does that sound like a deal?”
“Yeah sure.”
“Good.” She then put him back onto the ground. “Now get out of my sight before I change my mind.”
The Bully then ran away and Dawn turned her attentions to his victim. She quickly turned from angry to sympathetic. She gently picked him up and brought him up to her level.
“Are you alright?” asked Dawn.
“Yes thanks to you,” replied the Boy.
“I don’t think he’s going to be bothering you any longer.”
“You really shouldn’t have done that,” said the Boy.
“Why not,” replied Dawn. “I really don’t like to see people getting bullied. It really irritates me.”
“But he’ll just be back and he’ll bully me worse then before.”
“I’ll personally make sure he doesn’t.”
“Sure you can try. But I’ll doubt that it’ll work Dawn.”
“Hey you knew my name.”
“Everyone knows your name. You’re the giant of the school.”
“Well I don’t like to brag.” She then paused for a moment. “I’m sorry but I never got your name.”
“Graham.”
“Ok Graham. I’ll be seeing you around.”
She then gently put Graham back onto the ground and he waved to her as she walked away. He had never met a woman quite like Dawn. She was so powerful that no one could possible hurt her physically. But she was gentle enough to use her larger size and strength to make herself queen of the school. She was just like any girl trying to be popular.
But a few minutes after helping Graham the Principle of her school went to her. He didn’t seem very happy and she had to pick him up. From the look on his face she could tell that she was in trouble.
“Miss Snape we need to talk,” said her Principle.
“O-Ok,” replied Dawn. She then gently picked him up and brought him up to her level. “What’s up?”
“What’s up is that yet again you’ve used your larger stature to torment fellow students. This is not acceptable.”
“I was defending poor Graham.”
“That’s not what I’ve heard. Your mother signed a disclaimer saying that you’d never use your size and strength against another student like that unless you had no other choice. You’re under investigation. If you’re found to be at fault then you’ll be expelled from the school.”
“Expelled?”
“Yes Miss Snape. I’ve already contacted your mother and she should be here momentarily to take you home. You are temporarily suspended from school until the investigation is over.”
“You can’t do that.”
“We have no choice. Now can you please put me down.”
Dawn then gently put the Principle down and she just sat there with her thoughts. She couldn’t get expelled from school. All her friends were here and if she went for a job it wouldn’t look good that she got expelled from school.
She only had to sit there for a few minutes before she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around and looked up to see her mother. She quickly stood up to her full height and she tried to smile. But it didn’t seem to be working.
“Hi mom,” said Dawn.
“Don’t you hi mom me,” replied Jessica. “You’re coming home with me right now. And don’t try to argue.”
“But Mom.”
“No buts ma’am.”
