I awoke to the sound of marching, I looked up and saw a garrison of soldiers aproching me. It had been 3 months since the attack and i have been back to my house twice, once to bury my family, and twice to find some blankets and pillows. The soldiers stopped when they saw me, one of them, probably the leader dropped his hand to help me up, i took it and he asked me my name,
"John Clemmens".
He asked if i wanted to go back to their camp with them and actually have a good place to stay. I accepted his offer and we walked what seemed like miles, the soldiers looked like they had been through some tough time as well, but then again, who hadn't, all of their familys were pobably dead as well, that nuke had destoyed Indianapolis. When we got to camp everyone started asking me questions, who was i, what happend to you, etc. next thing i knew i was in the head sergent's office getting asked what had happend,
"we are all thats left of the United States Army stationed in the midwest area, 450 soldiers, 20 commanding officers, and 1 straggler, you."
He asked about my face, why it was all cut and stitched up, i answered,
"after the attack i woke up under a car, i got up, slowly and as i looked around i saw all the death and destruction. Downtown Indianapolis had beened turned to rubble the Chase tower was leveled, Lucas Oil Stadium was destroyed, everything was flattened. I had seen pictures of Hiroshima, this was ten times worse. i made my way back to my house on Shadow Drive and found my family, dead, my kids were a pile bones with scorched pajamas laying on top, and my wife, she didn't even have bones left, she had been vaporized."
I started to cry as i told this story for the fifth time today.
[indent]"as i left the house a beam from the top of the door gave way and slashed me in my face, though i was just far away enough that it didn't hit my eye. i was on the ground writhing in pain when a neighbor, who was, surprisingly, alive, stitched my face up. Then for the past two months ive been living in a box by the courthouse."
the sergent got up and got me a glass of water, and told his and the other soldiers' story.
"We are the last of the United Stated military that was stationed in and around the east coast of Virginia. We were training at the Virginia military intitute when suddenly we heard an explosion. The roar of the shockwave echoed through the hills behind the camp. Then the air raid alarm went off and we all ducked for cover, but we had no idea that we would experience this kind of destruction. We lost 357 soldiers that day, good men, most of them had families. The rest of my team and I made a promise to the dead, we would not rest untill the "الموت كمقدمي, Death Bringers, were killed."
I looked at the sergent and said, "Well, i'll make you a deal, you get me to Iraq, and fight with you against the Death Bringers."
