Urdu:  Dil hi toe hay na sang o khisht, dard say bher na aa'ay kuin
          Roaen gay hum hazaar baar, koie hamaen sataa'ay kuin

English:=== I'm made of flesh and not of stone
                  So hurt me not, and I'll not moan 
                                        -

Urdu:  Daer naheen, haram naheen, der naheen, aastaan naheen
          Baithhay haen rehguzer pay hum, ghair hamaen uthhaay khin

English:=== It's neither a temple nor a retreat
                  Don't drive me out; it's only a street
                                        -

Urdu:  Jab wo jamaal e dilfaroz, soorat e mehr e neemroz
          Aap hi ho nazaarasoz, perday maen munh chhupaa'ay kuin

English:=== Your coming in public O do not curtail
                  And you're so dazzling you don't need a veil
                                        -

Urdu:  Dishna e ghamza jaansitaan, nawak e naaz baipanaah
          Taera hi aks e rukh sahi, saamnay taeray aa'ay kuin 

English:=== Your lash is a dagger and glance a dart
                  So it's hard to face you, my sweetheart
                                          -

Urdu:  Qayd e hayaat o band e gham asl maen donoun aek haen 
          Moat say pehlay aadmi gham say nijaat paa'ay kuin

English:=== An eternal bliss only daeth can claim
                  For life and sorrow are one and the same
                                          -

Urdu:  Husn aur us pay husn e zan, reh gaie  bulhawas ki sharm
          Apnay pay aatamaad hay, ghair ko aazmaa'ay kuin

English:=== In grace and beauty when you are the best
                  Your hapless lovers then why do you test?
                                          -

Urdu:  Waan wo guroor e iz o naaz, yaan yeh hijaab e paas e waz
          Raah maen hum milaen kahaan, bazm maen wo bulaa'ay kuin

English:=== With me so reserved, and you so proud
                  No wonder our meeting fate hasn't allowed
                                            -

Urdu:  Haan wo naheen Khudaparast, jaao wo baiwafa sahi
          Jis ko ho deen o dil azeez, us ki gali maen jaa'ay kuin

English:=== And if you're not faithful and not sincere
                  Why do they all come to see you here?
                                            -

Urdu:  GHALIB e khasta kay baghair konsay kaam band haen
          Roiay zaar, zaar kya, kijiay haa'ay, haa'ay kuin

English:=== And the truth is for GHALIB people don't care
                  And nothing stops when he is not there
