Rumble of the stomach,
A regular close knit friend.
Urging forever, always
To quiet a belly's ravished wrench.
Searching through bare cupboards,
Counting contents once again.
There will be food there then,
Because once more was looked again.
Yet, no matter the might that's willed,
Hunger's story stays the same.
Pickings far from many;
A last drop of molasses
On a crusty heel of bread.
Once more to quell the roar,
The heel was found behind
Mixed powered drink, on the door.
Taken then off hunger's clock,
Pacing time to come once more.
Hunger again, it's ravaging clock insures.
Standing strong in weakness,
That clock again roars on for sure.
Pulling through each time the groan;
Along another famished day.
With now half that crusty heel,
Comes another roaring day.
