You Stole The Sparkle From My Eye

For every smile that warmed my lips,
two tears traversed the contours of my cheeks.
For every excited flutter upon my features,
my heart sank twice, into the hollow pit of my stomach. 

Each time my hand held yours tight,
led to a lonely night, clutching at a tear stained pillow.
Each time I tasted your lips on mine,
led to biting the inside of my mouth to silence my suffering.

For every moment spent in a wonderland, beyond belief,
two inconsolable moments passed in what seemed like forever.
For every “I love you”, whispered in my ear in gentle tones,
“I'm sorry” lingers, twice as loud, stealing the sparkle from my eye.
