A.B.(Banjo) PATTERSON'S PARTY!

There was talk around the city, for the word had got around
That the party planner Meg was on her way!
Her expertise for planning was famous and renown
Her list of clients grew more each passing day!

She was proud of all the household names who called to book their "Do"
There were Kings and Queens and film stars on her list.
Yet one for whom she yearned the most, and considered quite a coup
Was her favourite poet "Banjo" - he was missed.

Meg had an eerie visit from Banjo's friendly ghost
Who said that he would like to have a 'Bash'.
You never know - a spectre may arrive to be the host,
But I don't know who's providing all the cash!

Banjo is an Aussie poet (or was, he's long since gone)
He wrote of Aussie folklore and the land.
You may all know the story that he told in verse and song
Of Matilda who went Waltzing - it was grand!

A special poem he wrote, not sure if you all know it
The Man from Snowy River" - it's the story
of the Colt from 'Old Regret', as told by this great poet
And how the Man from Snowy earned his glory.

The party will be bonza, mate, all our cobbers will be there
With Clancy of the Overflow for sure.
Steve Irwin, Peter Brock, and Ned Kelly will appear
They've had an Aussie party once before!

Guests will arrive on horseback in keeping with the theme
and before they have their foot out of the stirrup,
they'll be welcomed with a steaming mug of Aussie Billy Tea
and Damper lashed with lots of Golden Syrup.

In memory of Steve Irwin, we'll have Croc steaks and 'Roo Stew
And Paul Hogan says that he too can attend.
He can throw some Tiger prawns on the fired-up barbeque
Banjo Patterson would consider Hoges a friend!

Andrew Barton Patterson - not just a well known poet:
The Man from Snowy River's famous ride
Is featured, with a picture, on our own ten dollar note,
Of "Banjo", as he's known here, far and wide.

So if you're passing by and see a mob of Aussie blokes
Eating meat pies covered with tomato sauce,
Come on in and join the crowd of true blue, dinkum folks
And get to meet our "Banjo" too, of course!
