Sunsets and Smiles

Memories fading
of sunsets and smiles.
Walks in the evenings
that went on for miles

We were young lovers
in that long ago.
Often I wonder
where did the time go?

Innocent children
filled with dreams of life.
We thought for certain
we’d be man and wife.

We made many plans
of how it would be.
Life got in the way
of us, I now see.

We drifted apart.
Sad, all that remains
are sad memories
of regrets and pain.

I still envision
the couple we were
sharing hopes and dreams.
It makes my heart stir.

Now my memories
keep me company,
though sometimes it seems
you are here with me.

If I could recall
those days of my youth
there’s much I would change,
to tell you the truth.

Yesterday, I know,
we cannot redo.
But, if it were so
I’d spend it with you.

Memories fading,
now into the mist,
of sunsets and smiles
when two lovers kissed.
