Urdu:  Masjid kay zaer e saaya kharaabaat chaahiay
          Bhoun paas aankh qibla e haajaat chaahiay

English:=== From the mosque to the tavern it's not very far
                  In the eye of a lover they're both on a par
                                            -

Urdu:  Aashiq huay haen aap bhee ik aur shakhs per
          Aakhir sitam ki kuchh to makafaat chaahiay

English:=== I know she's in love with another man
                  But be nice to this lover she also can
                                            -

Urdu:  Day daad aey falak dil e hasratparast ki
          Haan kuchh na kuchh talaafi e maafaat chaahiay

English:=== Oh, my heart is full of a million desires
                  But help from luck it also requires
                                            -

Urdu:  Seekhay haen mehrukhoun kay liay hum musawwari
          Taqreeb kuchh to behr e mulaqaat chaahiay

English:=== Well, I became a painter because of her
                  But she thinks I am only an amateur
                                            -

Urdu:  Mai say gharaz nishaat hay kis roosiyaah ko
          Ik goona baikhudi mujhay din raat chaahiay

English:=== For the sake of pleasure I do not drink
                  I need a trance in which to sink
                                          -

Urdu:  Hay rang e laala o gul o nasreen juda, juda
          Her rang maen bahaar ka asbaat chaahiay             

English:=== To see the flowers I go to the park
                  Of youth in them I find the mark
                                          -

Urdu:  Ser pa e khum pay chaahiay hugaam e baikhudi
          Roo soo e qibla waqt e munaajaat chaahiay

English:=== And face I Mecca when I go to pray
                  And near the vat in the bar I stay
                                          -

Urdu:  Yaani ba hasb e gerdish e paimaana e sifaat
          Aarif hameesha mast e mai e zaat chaahiay

English:=== And in the pub they think that I'm odd
                  Because when there, I get drunk with God
                                          -

Urdu:  Nashv o numa hay asl say GHALIB farooe ko
          Khaamoshi hi say niklay hay jo baat chaahiay

English:=== So quietly, GHALIB, you can achieve a lot
                  And say an awful lot when speak you not
