This was written for a contest with this prompt: "Write a poem about a vampire, but DO NOT use the word 'blood', or its variants"
Darkness falls; I am awakened. I feel the urge to feed. The craving’s strong like burning flames. I cannot quench the need. I arise up from my coffin. To quell internal fires, I must stalk my newest victim, to slake these strong desires. I wander through midnight shadows leading the dance of death. My partners, I oft seduce them as I steal their last breath. They served a far greater purpose than they will ever know, for they now are one within me; slain hunger apropos. Cursed to always be nocturnal, Prince of Darkness, it seems, condemned to the nighttime’s kingdom. I’ll see you in your dreams. Rhyme: 8,6,8,6 Pattern: abcb
