In the Night
In the still night, creatures of the dark abound.

Leaves shiver on the spindly trees,
Nervous clouds scud across the sky,
Shadows slither, then sighted, freeze.
My lips agape in soundless cry,

Heartbeat like boat on tossing seas,
Eyes darting wild and ears pricked high,
Scenting, but there’s no hint of breeze,
'Tis all Hallow’s Eve, danger’s nigh.

The first impact, a breathless wheeze,
Two curved fangs, a white neck espy,
Wet warmth guzzled, appetite pleased,
In the night, a vampire am I.

In tetrameter and AB rhyme, there are only two rhyming options throughout the alternate lines.
