We were never promised,
A life of ease and comfort, Nor a sturdy ship of safety, Docked in a sheltered port. We've never been granted, A ticket to a land, Of sunshine and roses, Or anything grand. Every life contains, A bit of this and that, Heartache and woe, We keep under the hat. We're a strong breed, We've learned to cope, Take life as it comes, And continue to hope.
