Prompt:"What's cookin' ~ let your inner alchemist out, and cook up a horrifying poem fit for a banquet..."

Halloween Carte du Jour

It is time for our annual banquet!
The menu I must now prepare.
It’s always a grand occasion,
served up with savoir faire.

The first course must be so delightful!
I’m thinking of lady bug stew
served in fresh monkey’s head compotes,
because anything else wouldn’t do!

A salad, of course, must then follow
Perhaps eye of newt in tossed greens.
For garnish, we’ll add some wolfbane
and sprinkle with steamed fava beans.

The main course should  be most exotic!
No common place entrée will serve!
One that appeals to the palate,
served with greatest panache and verve!

I’m thinking Mongolian boodag.
It is really quite nice, you see.
Or maybe I’ll serve black bat paste
atop scorpion fricassee.

Some scalloped potatoes are perfect,
with yak butter and green sour cream.
Peas seasoned with slugs on the side
and fungus soufflé. What a dream!

Fine wine should accompany dinner,
perhaps a white maggot Chablis,
or maybe an ox-blood merlot.
Then later, a spot of bog tea.

Dessert—the pies de resistance!
It must be fit for the kings!
Flan made with toad’s eggs and grapefruit
with sprinkles of mosquito wings.

I’ll get this right out to the printer
It’s an amazing bill of fare!
Invitations will be mailed soon!
We certainly hope you are there!
