THE BEWITCHING HOUR

I'm not afraid of the bewitching hour
for I'm protected by a Higher Power!
No ghosts or goblins or scary creature
will dare to come! I'll call a Preacher!

No bats that fly into my room at night
will dare turn into vampires at the sight
of me sleeping peacefully in my bed
when I have a crucifix above my head.

Creepy movies I never watch at all,
I don't listen for footsteps in the hall.
No tricks or treats for this old lady,
Halloween parties seem a bit shady.

Oh, I remember when I was young
and thought that it was all great fun.
We would dress up in goulish gear
and then laugh until it brought a tear.

We were up to no good way back then
dressed in black like boogey-men Smile
We would raid the refrigerator for eggs
and run down the street on shaky legs!

Dastardly deeds we always carried out
until we made our old neighbors shout.
We knocked on the door of an old crone
who lived in a run-down, old, old home.

The door opened as she heard our knocks,
the sight of her scared us out of our socks!
A witch she was and in my wildest dreams
I can still hear her and my silent screams!

That night I gave up the trick or treating
and went instead to a great revival meeting.
It changed my life and it is now my belief
that God would never cause me such grief!

And so, dear friends, do what you must,
just remember that in God we still trust.
