Vampires
Flair For Writing Newsletter 2009 Editor: Megan Rose Princess Megan Bella Rose Assistant Editor: Angel Angel ** #1606828 Not An Image ** Hi Everyone: Happy Halloween! Are you ready for Halloween? I need to get pumpkins, yet. I love the orange and white pumpkins. Angel has made some sigs and she helped me with the newsletter. We both love Halloween. Okay. This newsletter is about vampires. No ghost stories in this one. What? I hear booing and applauding. Angel and I like vampires and we are thinking about writing a vampire story of our own. Don't you love THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and TWILIGHT books and movies? I could have fallen in love with a vampire and the werewolf. Vampires. They are intriguing, romantic, handsome, mysterious and someone you can't take home to your mother! Sounds like most of the men that Angel and I went out. Alright. Let's get started. Angel has a vampire story to share. I will let her go first. Hopefully, you can stick your fangs into this newsletter. Enjoy! Story submitted by Angel: Tina and Marjorie decided to visit the old house 3 blocks away from Tina's home. There was a tale about the old house they said. A 87 year old Englishman lived there but he vanished. No one had never saw him again. After all the scary stories, the girls decided to enter the old haunted mansion. Rumor had it, that people who entered the mansion just vanished and were never seen again. You could hear screams from the haunted mansion blocks away. Every Halloween, college kids would break into the mansion and have a costume party. They thought it was cool to be in a haunted house. In 1996, they held a costume party and some kids vanished. The lucky ones who escaped with their lives were never the same again. They claimed that a horrible creature with eyes like fire and fangs and long fingernails was inside the haunted mansion. A young man said his friend Jack was dragged by the creature. He would never forget the sounds the creature made and his friend screaming for help. Jack saw the blood left on the floor from his friend. Tina and Marjorie entered the old mansion. They walked side by side holding hands. They were very scared and whispered in low voices. They wanted to know if the tales were true. There was a sign by the gate warning people not to enter. The sign said: "Don't go in there." The girls ignored the sign. Tina and Marjorie walked upstairs to the bedroom where the old Englishman used to sleep. The old room had a big fireplace and beautiful paintings. A typical old English house. Marjorie decided to walk out of the room. Tina realized hat Marjorie had left and she started to call out her name walking very slowly. Her eyes were big and her heart was pumping fast. Her face was very pale. There were so many thoughts popping into her head. She wanted to find her friend so they could leave and she was really scared. Tina was so mad at her for taking off like that. Tina found Marjorie and they walked down the stairs. They heard sounds coming from the Reading Room. Tina said to Marjorie that they needed to leave now. Marjorie wanted to see what was in the room. She was a curious girl. Tina was shaking her head begging her friend to leave. Marjorie didn't listen. Slowly she walked to the library and she saw this horrible creature standing there. He had ugly eyes, long fangs and he was drooling. Marjorie screamed. Tina ran out the door. She heard her friend screaming and the creature making awful noises. She never looked back. She kept running and screaming for help. Tina was one of the lucky ones. She never saw the ugly creature. The only thing she will never forget is her friend Marjorie screaming and the horrible noises the creature made. Years have gone by and Tina has learned to take warning signs seriously. If you see a sign that says: "Don't go in there." Think before you enter. Remember you have been warned. Thank you, Angel. We have been warned! Scary story. That creature? No doubt it is a vampire. Are you ready to talk about vampires? You have been warned. I got my info from Google. Here goes. Vampires are legendary creatures feeding on the life essence of living creatures by drinking their blood. Vampires often visited loved ones and like to cause mischief. They were described as bloated and ruddy or dark. I see vampires as being handsome like Edward, Lestat, Stefan, Damon or Barnabas. Bram Stoker's vampire novel provided the basis for the traits of a vampire. Like sleeping in a casket, only being seen at night turning into a bat or wolf. They drink blood and can't eat food. Their skin is always cold. Vampires were usually reported to be bloated, ruddy, purplish or dark in color because of the blood they drank. Vampires go back as far as the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks and Romans England and Germany had vampire sightings, too in later years. It was believed that humans became vampires after death due attacked by wild animals. Also a wound that wasn't treated with boiling water caused a person who diedto turn into a vampire. In Russian Folklore, vampires were people who had been witches or who were evil in life. To prevent people from becoming vampires, dead corpses were buried upside down or buried with coins in their mouths to pay the toll for crossing the River Styx. Poppy seeds were also buried with the body to prevent one from becoming a vampire. One method of finding a vampire's grave was leading a virgin boy through graveyards grounds on a virgin stallion; the horse would balk at the vampires grave supposedly. Holes appearing over the grave were a sign of vampirism. Vampires could make their presence knowing by hurling stones at roofs and bothering people while they slept. Crosses and garlic were thought to ward off vampires. If you were bitten, you could become a vampire. Wooden stakes through the heart killed a vampire. Deflating the skin of bloated vampires would kill them it was believed. The Persians were the first to have tales of blood drinking creatures. In ancient Greece, it was believed that vampire women drank the blood of children. All through the centuries, everyone had their own tales of vampires. Like a Russian man who worked in the water mills died after an animal attack and it was believed that he hung around the water mill attacking people and drinking their blood. Graves were dug up and throwing holy water on bodies, burning bodies and cutting up corpses took place in order to destroy vampires. Controversy ceased when Empress Maria Theresa of Austria sent her personal physician Gerard van Swieten to investigate claims of vampirc entities. He concluded that vampires didn't exist and the Empress passed laws prohibiting opening of graves and desecration of bodies and put an end to vampire myths. Stories are still written about vampires in movies and books. I like that vampires are intriguing, mysterious and are fantasies. There is going to be a new Dark Shadows movie and Johnny Depp is playing Barnabas! Yes! The sexiest, most handsome man in the world! He is perfect for the part. Vampires. They feed our imaginations. I like in TWILIGHT that the vampires don't sleep, can be seen in the daylight and they don't all feed on humans. There is romance. Everyone needs romance. Even vampires. I could go on and on about vampires but I think you get the message. I hope that you will go see NEW MOON and let me know what you think. Angel and I hope that you have enjoyed this newsletter. Any comments? Please let Angel and I know. Happy Halloween! We will be back in December for the Christmas Newsletter. Editor's Picks:
