Write a poem or story that uses the following title: But That’s Not My Name!

BUT THAT'S NOT MY NAME

I signed up for a lifetime
of unbridled chaos
when I tried to keep
my maiden name after I got married! .
I didn't have a single clue
about what I was careening toward--
the confusion among our friends,
the lectures from perfect
strangers, the misunderstandings
with family--I'm not even sure
who I am. after all these years!
And, what does it matter, anyway--
it's only my identity,
after all!

MY RESPONSE TO A REVIEW CLAIMING THAT I'M SAYING THAT MARIAGE HAS TAKEN AWAY MY IDENTITY:

I'm glad for your take on the poem--I will rewriteit and see if I can make it say what I truly mean, or if I really secretly feel the way you have interpreted it after all. Thanks for that insight and valuable help!! Since I'm now living with my in-laws for the first time after 21 years of marriage, this is a good time to finally figure out what I'm meaning!! I fear that what you heard is reaslly how I feel; thanks for the insight! I know you just meant this to be a friendly review and not a pshchological evaluation, and that's indeed how I am recieving it--I obviously have a stack of still-unpacked baggage to open and explore on this quiet, rainy mondayI'm glad for your take on the poem--I will rewriteit and see if I can make it say what I truly mean, or if I really secretly feel the way you have interpreted it after all. an attempt to re-state my feelings more clearly:

BUT THAT'S NOT MY NAME

I signed up for a lifetime
of unbridled chaos
when I tried to keep
my maiden name--because I
had a career and liked the sound
of its alliteration--
after I got married! .

the lectures from perfect

And, what does it matter, anyway--
it's only a name,
after all!
