Oh, Lover, you’re fast asleep,
You have been for an hour or two,
swaying deeply in your dreams,
as I sit alone, daydreaming of you.
I envy the pillow that you rest your head upon,
I’m jealous of the walls, which watch you as you sleep.
I sit up in my bed, wishing I was the one
who is occupying your dreams.
But, I’ve lost you to sleep.
Too far away to kiss your face,
and beckon you from your dreams;
too far away to hold you till you wake.
I would be so much more content,
if I could lay down beside you this night.
Without you in my arms it’s torment.
I just want to wrap you up, till the sun climbs high.
Did you hear me whisper
across the breeze,
asking you to break from slumber
and come back to me?
Oh, my Lover, I’ve lost you to your dreams,
once again. Daylight is still hours away.
Your need for rest has wrecked my schemes,
so I must wait for the day.
