Urdu:  Baiaatadaalion say subuk sub say hum huay
          Jitnay ziyaada ho giay utnay hi kum huay

English:=== In immoderation those who believe
                  The more they desire, the less they recieve
                                          -

Urdu:  Pinhaan tha daam sakht qareeb aashiaan kay
          Urhnay na paa'ay thay keh gariftaar hum huay

English:=== Too close to home there was her snare
                  I could not escape; I didn't have a prayer
                                          -

Urdu:  Hasti hamaari upni fana ki daleel hay 
          Yaan tak mitay keh aap hi apni qasam huay

English:=== Oh, it's not so very difficult to guess
                  That everything ends in nothingness
                                            -

Urdu:  Sakhtikashaan e ishq ki poochhay hay kya khaber
          Wo loag rafta rafta seraapa alam huay

English:=== And you may like it or you may not
                  But pain and sorrow are a lover's lot
                                            -

Urdu:  Taeri wafa say kya ho talaafi keh dehr maen
          Taeray siwa bhee hum pay bohat say sitam huay

English:=== And if you can escape the lover's curse
                  There're a lot of pains that are even worse
                                            -

Urdu:  Likhtay rahay junoon ki hikaayaat e khoonchikaan
          Herchand is maen haath hamaaray qalam huay

English:=== But in the end you'll have to concede
                  That a lover's lot is to bleed and bleed
                                              -

Urdu:  Allah ray taeri thundi e khoo jis kay beem say
          Ajzaa e naala dil maen meray risq e hum huay

English:=== And if your girl is cruel and tart
                  You can easily write off your poor little heart
                                              -

Urdu:  Ahl e hawas ki fateh hay tark e naburd e ishq
          Jo paaoun uthh giay wohi un kay alam huay

English:=== But then there're people who only lust
                  And, unlike lovers, they don't go bust
                                                -

Urdu:  Naalay adam maen chand hamaaray supurd thay
          Jo waan na khhich sahay so wo yaan aa kay dam huay

English:=== And then there are those you can't satisfy
                  They are born to always cry and cry
                                                -

Urdu:  Chhorhi ASAD na hum nay gadaaie maen dillagi
          Saail huay toe aashiq e ahl e karam huay

English:=== And, GHALIB, you know me from cover to cover
                  I'm a man who was born to be a lover
