Urdu:  Zulmatkaday maen maeray shab e gham ka joash hay
          Ik shamey hay daleel e sahar so khamoash kay

English:=== My house's as dark as the darkest night
                  Only a candle is there and it's silent quite
                                          -

Urdu:  Nay muzhda e wisaal na nazzaara e jamaal
          Muddat huie keh aashtie e chashm o goash hay

English:=== There's nothing to hear and nothing to see
                  And it's all as quiet as it can be
                                            -

Urdu:  Mai nay kiya hay husn e khudaara ko baihijaab
          Aey shouq yaan ijaazat e tasleem e hoash hay

English:=== Oh, after she drinks, she's not very shy
                  And to her reserve she says good-bye
                                            -

Urdu:  Goher ko aqd e gerdan e khoobaan maen dekhna
          Kya auj per sitaara e goherfaroash hay

English:=== And around her neck when pearls she wears
                  Her jeweler can't talks; he simply stares
                                              -

Urdu:  Deedaar baada, hosla saaqi, nigaah mast
          Bazm e khayaal maikada e baikharoash hay

English:=== She makes them drunk, your heart and soul
                  And on your mind you lose control
                                              -

Urdu:  Aey taazawaaridaan e bisaat e hawa e dil
          Zinhaar, ager tumhaen hawas e na o noash hay

English:  So I say to you who are new to this
              And the good things in life if you don't want to miss
                                                -

Urdu:  Daekho mujhay jo deeda e ibrat nigaah ho
          Maeri suno jo goash e naseehat nioash hay

English:=== That before you plunge, you ought to see
                  And learn from a lover who's old like me
                                                -

Urdu:  Saaqi ba jalwa dushman e eimaan o aagahi
          Mutrib ba naghma rehzan e tamkeen o hoash hay

English:=== These beautiful girls are a different breed
                  And for the maid of the bar you can lose your creed
                                                  -

Urdu:  Yaa shab ko daekhtay thay keh her goasha e bisaat
          Damaan e baaghbaan o kuff e gulfaroash hay

English:=== When you enter the bar during night hours
                  It looks like a garden all full of flowers
                                                  -

Urdu:  Lutf e kharaam e saaqi o zoaq e sada e chang
          Yeh jannat e nigaah, wo firdous e goash hay

English:=== When the music plays, and the beauties dance
                  It's so hypnotic you can go in a trance
                                                  -           

Urdu:  Yaa subhehdam jo daekhiay aa ker toe bazm maen
          Nay wo saroor o shoar na joash o kharoash hay

English:=== But early in the morning it's the other extreme
                  And you feel as if it was only a dream
                                                    -

Urdu:  Daagh e firaaq e sohbat e shab ki jali huie
          Ik shamey reh gaie hay so wo bhee khamoash hay

English:=== And feeling the night's parting pains
                  Only a weeping candle there remains
                                                    -

Urdu:  Aatay haen ghaib say yeh mazaameen khayaal maen
          GHALIB sareer e khaama nawa e saroash hay

English:=== Now, GHALIB, I only hear a hum
                  And don't know from where these ideas come
