The Seagull And The Sailor
Dedicated to my late brother-in-law

The Seagul And The Sailor

I heard the rifles loud report
as a sailor's laid to rest
a seagull circles overhead,
soaring toward the west.

He served his country bravely,
always did what he was told,
a fighter with the strongest will,
a heart full of love to hold.

Taps were playing quietly
over this hallowed ground,
the only thing that was stirring
was a seagull circling round.

A man who loved his family
and taught them all he could,
he helped them through the rough times
as a carpenter crafts his wood.

Now he's overcome the hardships
for his heart was always true
as the sailor and the seagull
soar on into the blue.
