Anwar sighed (in as much as a fish is able to sigh). Actually it was more like blowing bubbles, but there was true longing behind it. He hovered behind his rock and watched all of the koi from afar. He had been fascinated with them for as long as he could remember (which was at least seven seconds). So exotic. Swaddled in grace, beautiful and brilliantly colored--Anwar was just a sort of grayish brown. His heart ached with his dream of one day being able to join them.
He would be shades of orange the likes of which have never been seen. Dashingly handsome, he would (fish equivalent) saunter up to the lot of them and toss his dorsal back. Awed by this creature that they had been blessed to be near, the koi would crowd around him just to get a glimpse. Anwar would flick his magnificent fan of a tail and it would move as silk in a breeze. All of the others would fall in behind him and they would flitter about the pond...
Kerrplunk!
A heron's javelin bill burst from the surface like a harpoon. There was an explosion of bubbles and mud where the crowd of koi had been. Drawn by the colorful mass of activity, the fowl had an easy time of selecting his meal.
Anwar jetted back behind his trusty rock. "Or not."
