Regulus, a myth
wanderer’s parable tells
of prior epoch.
Nestled within the loins of
the Lion, Regulus shows
... haunches rigid and taut as if he had held a position that was ready to lurch and heave his bulk forward at any moment to protect his lineage. A well rehearsed gesture, like a sentinel on watch, included a prolonged stay on the extended midriff of a tree’s trunk. A skein of tree branches sway in the wind reminding him of an earlier reign of territory he valued as much as this one; an ancient sovereignty of land to call his own. Perhaps, when this thought begins to bore him, he gnaws upon the bulge of the tree trunk to expose the intricate depths underneath and the bare roots of his longing.
