The clock began to tick away when the doctor came in today.

He said she was gonna die. He put a time stamp on her life.

An expiration date.

And as he spoke her death sentence, no compassion fell from his lips. No sympathy cried from his eyes. Her spirits lifted as her heart sank and the question lingered in her mind: what's next? The doctor walks coldly away and she looks to the ceiling for answers. She searches it for clues.

How will she get out of this?

She reminisces about the mistakes she has made. It was so easy to wash them away with that clear liquid gold that was housed in a glass bottle. It was her only friend. Catching herself, she stops herself. We all make mistakes! She refuses to beat herself up over life.

And she doesn't know what to believe. Is there a God?

A heaven?

An afterlife?

Whatever is out there. Whoever is out there. It has to be better on the other side. She hopes she won't meet Saint Peter though. On that other side. Because she knows he's no friend of hers. No key will be given to her. She realizes the gate's forever closed. She don't know if there is room for second chances. She have yet to bear witness to that theory. Where should she search for answers? The Bible? A priest?

Society?

She looks in the mirror at herself. She realizes that the answers lie from within. And the most important question of them all comes to light: where does she stand?
