When They Finally Came: An Epiphany
a poem.............my first really good one

I lie here dreaming, but is it a dream?
I cannot move, I cannot scream.
My eyes seem open, but I do not see.
I have no fate, nor destiny.

Friends and family, beautiful flowers
I wait and wait, it seems for hours.
A silent teardrop, for my heart has cried
I want to share, but am denied.

What have I done here to deserve this hell?
I served the Lord, I served him well.
The preacher preaches, the people they listen.
The assembled weep, their eyes do glisten.

My mother she prays, my father he tries
My wife holds strong, my children cry.
I feel for them all, with my mortal soul
My time was brief, my life not whole.

How much more of this, must one man endure?
Tell me oh Lord, was I not pure?
Was I not, a stern pillar of merit?
Please Lord, finally declare it

I spent my life in a trustworthy fashion
I made mistakes, but I took action .
Where shall I rest? Life's road is asunder.
Nor, up above or down under?

Suddenly my life seems all the more clear
The bad is gone, I have no fear.
For that one moment, our eyes they do meet
And finally, I see her weep.

She can see me now, her fears are no more
I wish my love, for her it soars.
The casting light's glow, for only I can see
Came upon, an epiphany

When they finally came, my body quivered
An angel's touch, was delivered
I said goodbye, and felt tears on my face.
Rising with them, a higher place.

Hand within hand, they lifted me higher
I felt renewed, I felt inspired
Now I see the Lord's heavenly home
I wait for her, I wait alone.
