Urdu:  Shikway kay naam say baimehr khafa hota hay
          Yeh bhee mat kehh keh jo kahiay toe gila hota hay

English:=== Oh, she's not very happy when I complain
                  But if I don't, she prods me again and again
                                            -

Urdu:  Pur houn shikway say yuin, raag say jaisay baaja
          Ik zara chairhiay, phir daekhiay kya hota hay

English:=== But I like to talk without any doubt
                  You just have to ask me; I'll blurt it out
                                              -

Urdu:  Go samajhta naheen per husn e talaafi daekho
          Shikwa e jour say sergerm e jafa hota hay

English:=== And whenever I am a little bit jealous
                  She becomes very spiteful, cruel, and callous
                                                -

Urdu:  Ishq ki raah maen hay charkh e makokab ki wo chaal
          Sustroe jaisay koie aablapaa hota hay

English:=== But this is not the end of the cruelty
                  My fate is also my great enemy
                                                -

Urdu:  Kuin na thehraen hadaf e naawak e baidaad keh hum
          Aap uthha laatay haen ger teer khata hota hay

English:=== But I so much like a wounded heart
                  And if she misses, I return her the dart
                                                -

Urdu:  Khoob tha pehlay say hotay jo hum apnay badkhaah
          Keh bhala chaahtay haen aur bura hota hay

English:=== Oh, whatever I want, the opposite I get
                  So I think on the opposite I should always bet   
                                                  -

Urdu:  Naala jaata tha paray arsh say maera aur ab
          Lab tak aata hay jo aisa hi rasa hota hay

English:=== They used to pity me when I would cry
                  But now on my tears I cannot rely
                                                  -

Urdu:  Khaama maera keh wo hay baarbud e bazm e sukhan
          Shaah ki madheh maen yuin naghmasara hota hay

English:=== But my poet's pen still has the power
                  And above all the poets of the court I tower
                                                  -

Urdu:  Aey shahinshaah, kawakabsipeh o mehralam
          Taeray ikraam ka haq kis say ada hota hay

English:=== Our king who rules the earth and the sky
                  And on whose generosity we can always rely
                                                    -

Urdu:  Saat aqleem ka haasil jo faraham keejay
          Toe wo lashker ka teray naalbaha hota hay

English:=== He has in his army the best of men
                  The amount of his wealth is beyond our ken
                                                      -

Urdu:  Her maheenay maen jo yeh badr say hota hay hilaal
          Aastaan per teray meh naasiasaa hota hay

English:=== On the stars in heaven he holds his court
                  And the moon comes down to kiss his fort
                                                        -

Urdu:  Maen jo gustaakh houn aaien e ghazalkhaani maen
          Yeh bhee taera hi karam zoaqfiza hota hay

English:=== And because his support he does not withhold
                  I can write my verses so brash and bold
                                                      -

Urdu:  Rakhio GHALIB mujhay is talkhnawaaie maen ma'af
          Aaj kuchh dard meray dil maen siwa hota hay

English:=== And caustic and bitter I can also sound
                  When, GHALIB, I feel this pain profound
