Urdu:  Ghair laen mehfil maen boasay jaam kay
          Hum rahaen yuin tishnalab paighaam kay

English:=== Oh, in her salon they all go and drink
                  But for me not a letter, my only link
                                          -

Urdu:  Khastagi ka tum say kya shikwa keh yeh
          Hathkanday haen charkh e neelifaam kay

English:=== I have my wounds, I have my pain
                  But this is my fate; I cannot complain
                                          -

Urdu:  Khat likhaen gay gercheh matlab kuchh na ho
          Hum toe aashiq haen tumhaaray naam kay

English:=== I've made her a name; I've given her fame
                  But they still say my love is only in name
                                            -

Urdu:  Raat pi zamzam pay mai aur subhehdam
          Dhoay dhabbay jaama e ahraam kay

English:  My pleasure and business I try to combine
              So even in Mecca I drink the wine
                                            -

Urdu:  Dil ko aankhoun nay phanhsaaya, kya mager
          Yeh bhee halqay haen tumhaaray daam kay

English:=== Oh, there's a trap not only in her hair
                  But her charming eye is also a snare
                                              -

Urdu:=== Shaah kay hay ghusl e sehhat ki khaber
              Daekhiay kab din phiraen hammaam kay

English:=== I've just now heard from the emperor's aide
                  That a complete recovery our ruler has made
                                              -

Urdu:  Ishq nay GHALIB nikamma ker diya
          Werna hum bhee aadmi thay kaam kay

English:=== And though I still can earn my livelihood
                  My love has made me, O GHALIB, no good
