Standing alone on the golden sand of Ice Beach, Jasmine looked out over the waters wishing with all her might that someone somewhere would believe in the love that she and Thomas felt for each other. As she watched the lights dance and sparkle on the water a tear ran down her cheek.
“Jasmine, my darling, What has made you cry?” Thomas wiped her tears away with his thumb.
“My father doesn’t believe you love me, no one believes in us. I know what we have is true, but I can not go on without the blessings of my people. It is not in our nature to go against one another.” Jasmine looked up at him, her crystal-blue eyes swimming with emotion. “Thomas, what are we to do? How are we to be together if my kind will not allow it?”
“Our love will find a way.” He cupped her pale face in his hands, and bent to place a whisper of a kiss on her mouth. “I would give anything to be with you, it has nothing to do with your magic. It is only you that I wish to be with.”
Jasmine reached up to wrap her arms around his neck and pull his mouth back to hers. “We will find a way to be together. I will do whatever it takes.” She looked at her human man with love. There was not an ounce of doubt in her mind of what they felt for each other. He was not using her, he truly loved her. She could see it in his dark brown eyes. The way he touched her sent jolts of fire along her skin. “I love you my dark haired angel.”
“And I love you my sweet fairy princess.” At the proclamation of his love she kissed him as she had never kissed before. She felt something tug inside of her. She knew nothing of what was going on around them. She only knew this man was what she wanted.
“I must go. My father will be looking for me soon.” She walked away leaving Thomas staring out over Lake Gustoff. He watched the light sparkle over the water entranced by the shadows it cast. As he watched he felt a strange presence behind him. “Hello David.” He turned to see the King of Fairies standing beside his giant winged horse.
“Good evening, Thomas. I couldn’t help but listen to your conversation with my daughter. You say you love her and yet you have not told her the truth of who you really are. I have gone along with your lies long enough. If you truly love her you must tell her. I will give you until tomorrows end. That is all I have to say.” David jumped graceful as a doe onto his horse. “Come Weatherby, it is time to go.” He gave the reins a slight tug.
Thomas sat watching the sunset, thinking all the while of how to tell the woman he loved that the reason no one would give their blessing to them was because of what he used to be. Yes I am human now, but before I became human I was an elf. Unfortunately I was an Elvin warrior. My job at that time was to kill any Fairy I came across. How could Jasmine ever love me knowing that I have killed many of her people. It was along time ago, however that doesn’t change the fact that it happened, He thought to himself.
Thomas startled awake to an unearthly cry. The sound reminded him of his days as an Elvin warrior. It sounded like a Fairy in pain. Worried about Jasmine, he ran to the border of Carrington County. When he arrived he saw her, the love of his existence standing in what appeared to be a pond. How could anyone not love this woman. Her straight black hair flowed like rain down her back, pale skin sparkled with sunlight. The strapless blue dress hugged her delicate frame. Even from this distance he could tell that the scream had come from her. He sprinted to her side.
“My love, what has happened to you?”
“I have known all along who you truly were. I knew what you did in the past, I didn’t care. I knew you had changed, but because you could not trust in our love to make it through that small truth Anastasia has doomed me to live for eternity only being able to see and hear all that happens around me.”
“I don’t understand. Your father said to me last night that I had until the end of today to tell you. What does Anastasia have to do with anything?” He grabbed her hand. It felt like stone beneath his all the warmth gone.
“I went to her last night after I left you. After all, she is the eldest of our kind. I told her of our love, I thought I could make her understand,to accept us, but she became jealous and said that no love could overcome the hardships of your past. She said that because you had not told me of your past, and I had not told you of the fact that I knew, we did not trust one another enough to make our love truly last. She has cursed me to become a statue in the middle of town. My sweet Thomas, I would have became human to join you. How can we be together now?” Her body started to turn to the dull grey of stone.
Thomas held his beautiful Fairy Princess and refused to let go. “If you turn to stone so shall I.”
The magic of the curse flowed around the loving couple. “I love you Thomas.”
“And I love you my darling Jasmine.”
As the magical smoke cleared the people saw before them a statue of two lovers embracing each other for eternity.
