My zip won't do up
The story of the lead up to my first job interview, and the nervousness that it brings!

My zip won’t do up
And I’m starting to panic,
This job interview
Has got me quite frantic -
I woke up all early
(Lost in my sleep)
But now that I’ve woken
Fears starting to creep
Into the eyes
That I’m trying to coat
With not too much makeup
But plenty of hope.

To show I’m not a tart
But I care how I look,
But the more I continue
The more I am stuck
To recite back my notes
To think witty lines
To start to worry
About all those times
In my CV
That there are gaps
I try to remember
But my memory laps
Over the excuses
I made about it,
Which brings me back
To this darn stupid zip.

Which still won’t do up
And now times getting on
My train leaves at half past –
I’m supposed to be gone!
I’ve shaved my legs,
Plucked my brow,
Researched the company
And looked up how
Their policies work
How “they like women in skirts
Men with a tie,
Both in a shirt".

But there’s no jobs
And hundreds of people
What would make them pick me?
How can I get even?
“Smile a lot,
Remember interviewer isn’t your mate,
Always be smart,
And NEVER be late”.

So I jump on my train,
And I’m really quite early,
Only second in queue
And I’m much smarter really.
The only problem is
I think as I drink from my cup,
Is that unfortunately my skirt zip
Still won’t do up.
