Anticipation

I was anxiously awaiting any form of reply to the work I sent out into this writing community. When I see what I have been waiting for: email! I quickly click on the file named “ The reason I am here is to tell you how gifted a writer you are. DOC. “ Open with…I don’t care just open the thing!  Open with…more expedience, would be preferable.

Ah, Here it is: the shining review that I have been waiting for...the one letter that will justify my efforts. The one document (that I will frame immediately) It will crush all my critics and take me to the next level of my writing journey. “Hello,” it reads. Yeah, yeah... lets get to the good parts shall we? “ I enjoyed your poem.”…of course you enjoyed my poem! I worked hard on it.  “But I found a few things that you may want to revisit.”

WHAT?  Revisit? Trust me, I spent enough time there already. Who is this person?…I’m checking their BIO!!…No way! A twenty-year-old girl from Fantasyville, North Pole, is reviewing me. I can’t take this. What else did she say?  “I noticed that you misspelled a word in line five and you used the word 'their' when it should have been 'there'. I hope this helps. I really enjoyed your poem.”

Oh...My...God! I am waiting for true enlightenment and the reinforcement that only a god could give, and I get Little-Miss-Spell-Check. Do these people not understand the depths to which I have to go to retrieve these agonizing thoughts? Have they not witnessed the power of my words? Have they not felt the slightest inkling of my transcendence to places far beyond the reach of other mortal men? I am SO going to give her a piece of my mind.

“Dear Miss Tiffany,

Thank you so much for reading my poem. I am so glad you took the time to let me know about the typos. It is always wonderful to hear what others think.”
