“Judgmental Sighs”
By: Joseph Michael Webb
October 29, 2009
The compacting pressure of their judgmental sighs
Sends me running down the Cathedral steps
Away from their laughter and made-to-order lies.
All I can see here are simple, odious preps!
Who are they to say that I cannot enter?
The world of peace and serenity that I hold dear
I want to believe, but people are so sinister;
Holy attitudes and pleasant praises are cold veneers.
Their façade of righteousness and Godliness never ceases,
As they prance along with their arms toward the heavens,
But just for an hour a week, their hearts in clenches.
Instead of God, they truly worship their plentiful patrons.
There’s a place in my heart where religion finally dies,
Taking with it all the judgments, tyranny, and copious guile.
A place where there are no lies, and an end to the unwise;
Freedom from holier-than-thou notions that desire to beguile.
