“Playful Teasing”
By: Joseph Michael Webb
October 30, 2009
A hard breeze rolled from the swells to strike my face.
The sand was moist and brown beneath my bare feet.
The air was chilly and I struggled not to tremor
Under a gray sky that foreshadowed coming rains.
Frigid water coaxed my icy feet to move away
As they jumped into the late November waters.
Their playful teasing and voluminous laughter
Would carry so much further than they knew.
They wanted me to join them in their cold games,
To be free amongst the waters off the coast of Carolina.
I was content to stand beside the waters edge
Armed with my camera to capture their “foolish” ways.
Death later took my siblings to above the atmosphere
But I will have them always here in this world;
For their playful teasing and voluminous laughter
Would carry so much further than they knew.
