Urdu:  Her qadam doori e manzil hay numaayaan mujh say
          Maeri raftaar say bhaagay hay biyaabaan mujh say

English:=== My quest of attainment my goal exceeds
                  The further I go, it farther recedes
                                          -

Urdu:  Dars e unwaan e tamaasha ba taghaaful khushter
          Hay nigeh rishta e sheeraaza e mizhgaan mujh say

English:=== Her image from my eyes, it tries to flee
                  My sight gets dimmer, the harder I see
                                          -

Urdu:  Wehshat e aatish e dil say shab e tanhaaie maen
          Soorat e dood raha saaya guraizaan mujh say

English:=== As the smoke from the fire tries to flee
                  My shadow wants to escape from me
                                            -

Urdu:  Gham e ushshaaq na ho saadgiaamoaz e butaan   
          Kis qader khaana e aaiena hay weeraan mujh say

English:=== Oh, no matter how much I try to explain
                  She cannot understand my grief or pain
                                            -

Urdu:  Aser e aabla say jaada e sehera e junoon
          Soorat rishta e goher hay charaaghaan kujh say

                  From the fire of my heart the desert bakes

Urdu:  Baikhudi bister e tamheed faraaghat ho jo
          Pur hay sa'ay ki terheh maera shabistaan mujh say

                  And all over my house I prance and dance

Urdu:  Shouq e deedaar maen ger too mujhay garden maaray
          Ho nigeh misl e gul e shamay pareeshaan mujh say

                  For I'm the moth, and she is the flame

Urdu:  Baikasiha e shab e hijr ki wehshat hay, hay
          Saaya khusrsheed e qayaamat maen hay pinhaan mujh say

                  And when she's away, it's a total blight

Urdu:  Gerdish e saagher e sad jalwa e rangeen tujh say
          Aainadaari e yak deeda e hairaan mujh say

                  That I cannot believe my own eyesight

Urdu:  Nigeh e garm say ik aag tapakti hay ASAD
          Hay charaaghaan khas o khaashaak e gulistaan mujh say
