Set Your Goals: This Will Be the Death of Us review

Set Your Goals is known for their up-lifting pop-punk. More often than not it leaves you feeling energized and hopeful. This is no exception for This Will Be the Death of Us, Set Your Goals' sophomore album. The opening track (also the title track), "This Will Be the Death of Us" seems to pick up right where Mutiny! left off and brings you into the album on the right note with guest vocals from Vinnie Caruana from I Am Avalanche.
The appearance of Vinnie Caruana isn't the only on the album. There are also guest vocals from Jon Gula from Turmoil, New Found Glories' Chad Gilbert and you can't ignore the appearance of Paramore's Hayley Williams during "The Few That Remain". Her vocals come as a great, powerful addition to the album.
Although Set Your Goals hasn't branched too far from the typical hardcore influenced pop-punk, their is no denying they have definitely made a distinct sound for themselves. This album is exactly what Mutiny! fans were hoping for. The guitar on their tracks seem more confident than in the previous album. They continue with their up-lifting, but non-preachy approach which I believe is best noted on "Our Ethos: A Legacy to Pass On". They focus on real issues and their hope for change, like in "Flawed Methods of Persecution & Punishment". Their lyrics are a little less angsty this time around, but you can still sense their sincerity.
I recommend This Will Be the Death of Us to anyone who wants a little pop-punk in their lives. They lyrics of "Equals" says, "I don't want to let any of you down" and I can assure you that they most definitely didn't let me down.
