It seems to me that life is just one experience after another all strung together like a necklace of beads. Some of these experiences are bright and colourful, shiny and exciting and we just love them and relive the wonder of them through our preceious memories.
Others though, stir up a well of emotions that leave us feeling resentful and rejected, aggravated and annoyed; even raw and bereft. We feel bewildered and bitter because the pain and hurt are just too much to bear.
None of us escapes these experiences but in the hands of God, these very experiences can enrich our lives, for just as a pearl is formed - an irritation or a piece of grit covered with layers and layers of nacre inside the oyster shell, so God can take those bitter painful experiences and cover them with layers and layers of His grace until He forms of each one, not just a string of beads that we don't really want, but a string of beautiful pearls for us to treasure.
We need to be encouraged by the words of Paul in Romans 8.28 (NLT): “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
