                                Ghalib Urdu 108


Urdu:  Diya hay dil ager us ko, basher hay kya kahhiay
          Hua raqeeb toe ho,naamaber hay kya kahhiay

English:=== And though he's supposed to be my pal
                  It seems my courier loves also my gal
                                            -

Urdu:  Yeh zid keh aaj na aaway aur aa'ay bin na banay
          Qaza say shikwa hamaen kis qader hay, kya kahhiay

English:=== I've been asking and asking but he doesn't come
                  Of the Angel of Death oh, what has become?
                                              -

Urdu:  Rahay hay yuin geh o baigeh keh koo e dost ko ab
          Ager na kahhiay keh dushman ka gher hay, kya kahhiay

English:=== And in her street he loves to roam
                  It seems my rival has made it his home
                                                -

Urdu:  Zahay karishma keh yuin day rakha hay hum ko faraib
          Keh bin kahay hee unhaen sab khaber hay, kya kahhiay

English:=== She is not only pretty but also smart
                  And knows exactly what's there in my heart
                                                  -

Urdu:  Samajh kay kertay haen bazaar maen wo pursish e haal
          Keh yeh kahay keh ser e rehguzer hay, kya kahhiay

English:=== And when she sees me in her street
                  She opens the door and comes out to greet
                                                  -

Urdu:  Tumhaen naheen hay ser e rishta e wafa ka khayaal
          Hamaaray haath maen kuchh hay mager hay kya, kehhiay

English:=== But any good in love she fails to see
                  And value she does not my sincerity
                                                    -

Urdu:  Unhaen sawaal pay zoam e junoon hay, kuin larhiay
          Hamaen jawaab say qatt e nazer hay kya kahhiay

English:=== When I raise the question of good and bad
                  She thinks I'm crazy; I'm totally mad
                                                    -

Urdu:  Hasad saza e kamaal e sukhan hay, kya keejay
          Sitam baha e mata e huner hay, kya kahhiay

English:=== Of my wonderful verses she is not aware
                  And for poetic craft she does not care
                                                      -
 
Urdu:    Kaha hay kis nay keh GHALIB bura naheen laikin
            Siwaay is kay keh aashuftaser hay kya kahhiay 

English:=== But, GHALIB, you know I'm not so bad
                  Though I must confess I'm a little mad
