This will eventually go with a fantasy novel I'm attempting for NaNoWriMo. In the book (assuming it gets done), these words are the lyrics to a song written by one of the main characters. I imagine a folksong-type tune from Scotland, Northern England, or maybe Ireland when I let the words go through my head. Overall, it stands well on its own, although some of the allusions work best as seen within the plot-line. I don't have a title for it yet, so please work with me there - and if anyone has any suggestions, be my guest. On a final note, poetry isn't really my forte, and this shouldn't be considered a final product, so suggestions are welcome.
When the sweet, white rose petals fall to the ground I shall know it is time to mourn thee. When the wind stirs at last and blows them away, I shall know thou hath left me forever. In the stillness of Winter there is nary a sound. How shall I abide now without thee? And when Spring comes again, to you my heart will stay, For my promise to you is forever. May my voice now carry to the faraway stars Where I know my love is waiting for me. May my heart wind a path through the faraway stars, So I'll be with my true love forever.
