Urdu:  Daekh ker der perda garm e daamanafshaani mujhay
          Ker gaie waabusta e tun maeri uryaani mujhay

English:=== In spite of all my efforts profound
                  To the flesh my soul is now tightly bound
                                         

Urdu:  Bun gaya taegh e nigaah e yaar ka sang e fisaan
          Merhaba maen, kya mubaarak hay garaanjaani mujhay

English:=== Of her black enchanting eye, O Lord
                  She uses my heart to sharpen the sword
                                            -

Urdu:  Kuin na ho bai iltafaati, us ki khaatir jamay hay
          Jaanta hay mehv e pursish'ha e pinhaani mujhay

English:=== Though the tumult she causes does never cease
                  With herself my gal is always at peace
                                                -

Urdu:  Maeray ghamkhaanay ki qismat jab raqam honay lagi
          Likh diya minjumla e asbaab e weeraani mujhay

English:=== My pain and sorrow O how much I hate
                  But it is my destiny; it is my fate
                                                -

Urdu:  Badgumaan hota hay wo kaafir, na hota kaashkay
          Is qader zoaq e nawa e murg e bustaani mujhay

English:=== And I feel like a lonely nightingale
                  Without his rose who can only wail
                                                  -

Urdu:  Waay waan bhee shoar e mehsher nay na dam laenay diya
          Lay gaya tha goer maen zoaq e tanaasaani mujhay 

English:=== I thought it'd be peaceful after I die
                  But on Judgment Day I had to testify
                                                  -

Urdu:  Waada aanay ka wafa keejay, yeh kya andaaz hay
          Tum nay kuin soenpi hay maeray gher ki derbaani mujhay

English:=== She says she'll come and makes a date
                  But then she does not, and I wait and wait
                                                  -

Urdu:  Haan, nishaat e aamad e fasl e bahaari waah, waah
          Phir hua hay taaza soda e ghazalkhaani mujhay

English:=== But then one day when comes the spring
                  I forget my sorrow and start to sing
                                                  -

Urdu:  Di meray bhaie ko Haq nay az ser e noe zindagi
          Meerza Yusuf hay GHALIB Yusuf e saani mujhay 

English:=== Then, GHALIB, I go to Yusuf, my brother
                  In handsomeness who's Joseph another
