Home Coming

HOMECOMING

Daddy came home today.
He was gone a long time
His children missed him and talked about it,
how much fun it will be
when Daddy comes home!

He came home today.
It’s hard to explain to a child
How daddy could come home at last
But not to stay. 

The children stand wide eyed 
They cover their ears as the volley is fired.
They search their mother’s face as the bugle plays
They touch the folded flag the soldier gave Mommy.
It’s hard to explain it to children.
