Urdu:  Huzoor e shaah maen ahl e sukhan ki aazmaaish hay
          Chaman maen khushnawayaan e chaman ki aazmaaish hay

English:=== The poets are there in the court of the king
                  To sing their songs like the birds in spring
                                            -

Urdu:  Naheen kuchh sabha o zinnar kay phanday maen geeraaie
          Wafaadaari maen shaikh o berhaman ki aazmaaish hay

English:=== And whether it's a Brahman or whether a Sheik
                  It is love and devotion that are at stake
                                                  -

Urdu:  Naseem e Misr ko kya peer e kinaan ki hawakhaahi
          Usay Yusuf ki boo e pairahan ki aazmaish hay

English:=== While Joseph is honored and loved everywhere
                  What happens to Jacob people don't care

Urdu:  Rahay dil hi maen teer achha, jiger kay paar ho behter

          Jahaan hum haen wahaan daar o rasan ki aazmaaish hay

Urdu:  Karaen gay Kohkan kay hoslay ka imtahaan aakhir
          Hunooz us khasta kay nairo e tan ki aazmaaish hay

English:=== And in spite of his courage, his valor, his brawn
                  To a girl a lover is still a pawn

Urdu:  Wo aaya bazm maen daekho, na kahhio phir keh ghaafil hay
          Shakaib o sabr e ahl e anjuman ki aazmaaish hay

                  But whether it's fair, a girl doesn't care
                                                -

Urdu:  Perha reh aey dil e waabasta, baitaabi say kya haasil
          Mager phir taab e zulf e purshikan ki aazmaaish hay

Urdu:  Rag o pay maen jab utray zehr e gham tab daekhiay kya ho
          Abhee toe talkhi e kaam o dahan ki aazmaaish hay

Urdu:  Wo aawaen gay meray gher, waada kaisa, dakhna GHALIB
          Naay fitnoun maen ab charkh e kohan ki aazmaaish hay
